“I was placing a piece of fruit into my child’s lunch. An everyday act. When I suddenly saw how simply beautiful the fruit was. I saw how all the elements of painting that I love could be found in such a humble subject matter. My work is focused on the everyday common subject matter that we take for granted because we see them day in and day out. So I started to paint a few fruits, a single flower exploring the effects of shadow & light and revealing their intrinsic beauty.
While painting the flowers and the garden I engage all my senses, the scent of the flowers the observation of the kinetic world of wind and small creatures that whirl and buzz within the garden. These observations find their way into my paintings through a variety of brushwork and colour.”
